Mental Health Awareness Weekend
Mental Health Awareness Weekend (MHAW)
Founded by The Thought Co. | Since 2013
The Mental Health Awareness Weekend (MHAW) is one of our longest-standing community initiatives — a free, inclusive event that invites people from all walks of life into open, stigma-free conversations around mental health. Held annually around World Mental Health Day, this weekend is designed to build awareness, connect individuals to reliable information and professionals, and create a society that understands and values emotional wellbeing. Through live sessions, engaging formats, and expert-led education, we make mental health approachable, honest, and accessible.
Why It Exists
Despite growing awareness, mental health in India remains surrounded by misinformation, fear, and silence. A lack of education, acceptance, and open dialogue has left many individuals suffering quietly — confused by myths and unsure of where to turn.
MHAW was created to change that narrative. By creating interactive, stigma-free spaces — both online and offline — we aim to make mental health something people can talk about without fear, shame, or hesitation.
What Happens During MHAW
MHAW is a power-packed weekend of engaging, open-forum conversations curated and hosted by mental health professionals. It includes:
- Workshops and activities led by psychologists, art therapists, yoga therapists, special educators, and psychiatrists
- Interactive formats like games, videos, Q&As, and documentaries
- Spaces for exploring therapy, treatment options, and emotional wellness tools
What began at Carter Road, Bandra as vibrant, walk-in events has grown into hybrid online-offline formats that reach people across cities and contexts.
Who It's For
MHAW is open to all — whether you're already in therapy or just curious about mental health. It's designed for anyone who wants to understand emotional wellbeing and how it fits into daily life.
- First-timers to mental health conversations
- Individuals seeking reliable, stigma-free education
- Families and caregivers looking for support
- Students, professionals, and anyone seeking clarity and connection
Attendees leave with tools, awareness, and direct access to professionals who can guide them further.
Where We Are Now
Since 2014, we’ve successfully hosted MHAW annually — with a short pause in 2022 and 2023. In 2024, we're back with renewed energy, continuing our mission to:
- Destigmatize mental health in everyday life
- Educate through responsible, engaging methods
- Build a safe, inclusive mental health community
Every October, around World Mental Health Day, we create free, open spaces for connection, learning, and healing — one conversation at a time.
